The HSL strives to support university-wide initiatives, including the AI competency requirements. In autumn 2025, the HSL offered two new AI-centric workshops: “Knowing What You Don’t Know: Using GenAI to Encourage Students’ Information Evaluation Behavior,” taught by Katie Blocksidge, associate professor and head of HSL research and education services, and “AI and Literature Reviews in the Health Sciences,” taught by Kerry Dhakal, associate professor and HSL research and education librarian.
AI is going to affect libraries in a myriad of ways. To help prepare ourselves for this new world of information, our faculty and staff were encouraged to create an AI-related goal connected to their work. Each faculty/staff can learn how AI can be applied to their role and job duties through hands-on exploration and professional development opportunities.
In 2025, featured lecture speakers included Dr. Kenneth Ludmerer and Dr. Mary McIlroy.

A highlight event in 2025 was the Local Nursing Legends lecture, during which we inducted our Class of 2025 Local Nursing Legends. This group of five nurses were nominated by members of the central Ohio nursing community as those who provided exemplary service to this population and whose actions and lives can be seen as legendary. The Local Nursing Legends program is overseen by the Friends of Nursing History Steering Community, which is led by the HSL’s Medical Heritage Center.
