Advancing Learning through Access and Discovery
To facilitate teaching and learning, the Health Sciences Library (HSL) leverages the specialized expertise of our faculty and professional staff, accessible high-quality information resources, inviting spaces and innovative technologies to meet the changing needs of a diverse and expanding academic health sciences community.
2025 Hours Open and Visit Total
In a typical week, we were open 74.25 hours, plus Extended Library Access (ELA) for those who registered.
We welcomed new and returning patrons, totaling nearly 200,000 visits for the calendar year.
2025 Highlights
The HSL, in collaboration with The Ohio State University Libraries and OhioLINK, rolled out a new library catalog search platform in late June. The new search interface on our website provides an improved and more streamlined user experience. Platform administrators as well as our staff are actively learning about the new system, with improvements likely on the horizon.

We completed installation of additional compact shelving for the Medical Heritage Center rare books collection as well as behind the front desk for circulating reserves items. MHC shelving was partially supported by the William G. Myers endowment fund. The additional shelving was salvaged from the now defunct Kenny Road off-site book depository. This reallocation of resources allowed us to repurpose used shelving that otherwise would have been thrown away.

Renovation details include improved lighting, new carpet and a variety of furniture options to accommodate our visitors’ needs. We’re proud of our bright, welcoming space that perfectly complements our historic mural!

It’s been a marathon, but we got to the finish line! Behind the scenes in 2025, our marketing team collaborated closely with a third-party website development vendor to completely redesign both our primary library and our EdTech Incubator technology hub websites with a focus on improving user experience and meeting Ohio State’s digital accessibility guidelines. The new websites use standard Ohio State-developed templates to ensure a smooth user experience both within the websites as well as when navigating between Ohio State sites.
