RefWorks Gets a New Name
In early October 2026, RefWorks (a cloud-based reference manager provided by The Ohio State University Libraries) renamed to EndNote Fusion. The RefWorks Word and Google Docs integration automatically renamed to EndNote Fusion and will not require a re-installation.
Current RefWorks users should have already seen an alert message at the top of their account.
What Is Changing?
At this time, the only big changes are different colors, logos and design elements. There should not be changes to how users sign in to their account or the basic functionality of the tool.
Other enhancements include:
- Find Full Text in Bulk: Users can select up to 250 references and request that EndNote Fusion search for and attach full-text PDFs when available.
- Browser Extension: Users can grab citation information and/or full-text PDFs directly from websites.
- Research Assistant: This AI-powered PDF Assistant can generate document summaries, and users can ask questions about a document using natural language.
- Find a Journal: Authors can provide a manuscript title and abstract to receive journal recommendations for publication using Web of Science data, such as Journal Impact Factor.
What Does This Mean for Users?
As of the writing of this article, current RefWorks users will not need to take any steps to migrate to the new EndNote Fusion platform. All current login credentials should work in the new system. The previous RefWorks login page will automatically redirect patrons to the new login page, though frequent users may want to bookmark the new page once it is live.
The Health Sciences Library (HSL) will continue to track the implementation of this new tool and update our resources as new features are rolled out. If you have questions about the transition, you can use our Ask-A-Librarian form to get in touch with a librarian.
Check out the HSL Citation Management Tools Guide and the EndNote Fusion Help Center for updates.
