Job Title: Consumer Health Librarian
Department: Health Sciences Library

The Consumer Health Librarian at The Ohio State University Health Sciences Library serves in the Library for Health Information (LHI), a patient and family-focused resource center within the health system. This full-time, non-faculty staff librarian position operates both virtually and onsite, reporting through the Health Sciences Library and funded by the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center.

The successful candidate will lead, implement, administer, teach, and evaluate library services and programs for LHI and its satellite units, supporting the Ohio State Health System, University and general public.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic planning, implementation, and assessment of LHI operations, resources and services
  • Coordinating budget oversight with funding units
  • Promoting and marketing library resources and services
  • Implementing new technologies and potentially supervising volunteer staff
  • Participating in Health Sciences Library committees and outreach initiatives

Minimum Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required. Six years of relevant experience required; eight to twelve years preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of consumer health resources and familiarity with health sciences databases. Comfort with health literacy principles and emerging technologies. Strong commitment to customer service and ability to work independently and collaboratively.

About the Health Sciences Library

Located on the south end of the main Columbus campus of Ohio State, the Ohio State University Health Sciences Library primarily serves all faculty, staff and students of the Wexner Medical Center and the five Health Sciences colleges (Medicine, including the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, Nursing, Dentistry, Optometry, and Public Health) via its physical and vast digital resources, along with the expertise of its librarians and technical staff.  The specialized expertise of the Health Sciences Library supports research and discovery – from helping faculty focus their funding proposals and research questions, to improving faculty access to their most-needed journals, to conducting systematic literature reviews, to creating original medical illustrations that strengthen faculty research submissions to leading journals. Though administratively separate from University Libraries, faculty librarians are part of the University Libraries faculty unit, and the libraries collaborates in a variety of ways, including collections, teaching and learning, and digitization efforts.
