Hello everyone! Today, we would like to introduce one of our student assistants here in Public Services so you can better get to know our student workers. Kadence Booze was kind enough to agree to sit down for a short interview. Kadence has been working here at the Health Science Library (HSL) for over two years.
Could you start out by telling us your name and what you do in your role as a student assistant?
My name is Kadence, and, in my role as a student assistant, I support daily front desk operations and provide customer service to patrons. My responsibilities include assisting with book circulation, such as checking materials in and out, and handling pickups, such as posters. I also answer phone calls, respond to patron questions/concerns and help direct patrons to the resources they need. Overall, my role helps create a welcoming and efficient environment for patrons!
What are you studying here at The Ohio State University?
I am studying radiologic and therapeutic sciences (RadSci) in the radiography program here at Ohio State.
Can you explain a little about what radiologic and therapeutic science is?
RadSci is the field focused on using medical imaging and radiation-based technologies to diagnose and treat patients, including modalities like X-rays, CT scans, MRI, interventional radiology, etc.
Do you have any exciting plans for the summer?
While I will unfortunately be spending most of my time in clinical over the summer, I will be leaving the country twice! At the beginning of summer, I will be traveling to Lima, Peru, for a MEDLIFE trip to volunteer in medical mobile clinics in underserved communities. Additionally, I will be traveling to Japan in August for two weeks before fall semester begins!
What are your goals after graduation?
After graduation, I have a few goals. My first one is to pass my American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) board exam to become a certified radiologic technologist and begin my job as an interventional radiology technologist. With this, I am a premed student, and I have a few classes I still need to take. Therefore, I will begin those shortly after graduation and will make my way to becoming a doctor.
Is there any project you are currently excited to be working on?
I am a part of an organization called Ohio Staters, Inc., and, in this organization, we do service projects around campus to uphold the traditions and welfare of the university and its students. I am currently a co-chair on a project called Jesse Owens Oak where my fellow co-chair and I brought a sapling of the last known Olympic Oak Owens received after the 1936 Olympics. The last known oak was located at Rhodes Highschool in Cleveland, and saplings were made before it was torn down. Over the past semesters, the tree has been brought from Cleveland and is now planted on the oval near Thompson library and will be finished with a plaque to commemorate its significance soon. I have been working on this project for a period of time now, but I am excited it's almost finished!
