The Library for Health Information (fund #316711)

The LHI, located within University Hospitals, has provided health information services to our patients, families and the Central Ohio community for 25 years. This fund impacts health information services for patients, families and the Central Ohio community.

The EdTech Incubator (ETI) brings together medical education technology expertise and equipment on our fourth floor. Your help is needed to fully equip this area and to continue the library's mission to advance innovation and foster education and research collaborations.

This fund enables Health Sciences Library staff to continue professional development in order to remain knowledgeable about technology improvements to better serve the health sciences community.

Frost-Culler Library Endowment Fund (fund #602328)

Established in 1948 with a gift from a personal friends of Dr. Albert D. Frost and added to by gifts from friends of Dr. Arthur M. Culler, both former chairs of the department of ophthalmology at Ohio State, the annual income from this endowment is used to purchase books and periodicals in the field of ophthalmology.


 

The Medical Heritage Center

The Medical Heritage Center (MHC) was founded in 1997 with the mission to collect, preserve and promote the rich health sciences history of the central Ohio region. Since its inception, the MHC has enjoyed the support of its founding partners, The Ohio State University Medical Center and the Columbus Medical Association (CMA), as well as the generosity of individuals dedicated to supporting the Center’s mission through financial donations.If you would like to help the Medical Heritage Center in its mission through a financial gift, there are several options available to you.

Health Sciences Library Medical Heritage Fund (fund #305434)

Contributions made to the Medical Heritage fund are essential to support Medical Heritage Center programs and preserve historical collections that reflect central Ohio's rich health sciences history.

The John C. Burnham Lecture Series Fund in the History of Medicine/Science (fund #640982)

Established in 2000 with gifts from Marjorie Burnham, the income from this endowment is used by the department of history at The Ohio State University, in collaboration with the Medical Heritage Center, to sponsor the annual John C. Burnham lecture in the history of medicine and science. Lecturers feature world-renowned experts in the history of medicine and science, and are open to the public.

Coleman Memorial Alcove Endowment (fund #601382)

Established in 1991 from the estate of Marietta Comly in memory of Dr. Nathaniel E. Coleman, this endowment supports the purchase of rare books, medical artifacts and/or furnishings for the Coleman Memorial Alcove. The alcove and its resources are located in the Medical Heritage Center at the Health Sciences Library, and are available for use by the Ohio State community as well as the community at large.

Nathaniel R. Coleman Library of Medical Literature (fund #601383)

Established in 1913 with a donation of 538 volumes and cash from Sarah J. Coleman, wife of Dr. Nathaniel E. Coleman, and Marietta Comly, this endowment funds rare book collection support in the history of medicine, medical artifacts and furnishings for the Coleman Memorial Alcove. The alcove and its resources are located in the Medical Heritage Center at the Health Sciences Library.

Friends of Nursing History Fund (fund #311336)

Contributions made to the Friends of Nursing History fund support Medical Heritage Center projects and activities related to the preservation and archiving of nursing history in central Ohio.

Established in 2002 with gifts from Paul S. Metzger and Lee Metzger, this endowment supports the Medical Heritage Center's historic collections, operations and public programming.

Grayce Sills Archive Endowment Fund (fund #646610)

The Sills fund preserves nursing history at the Medical Heritage Center, making it possible to preserve, promote and provide access to the rich nursing legacy of central Ohio. Examples of use include support for the Grayce Sills archives as well as other nursing resources, the creation of nursing oral histories and support for the annual Friends of Nursing History lecture.

Barbara Van Brimmer Endowment Fund (fund #640820)

Established in 2004 in memory of Barbara Van Brimmer, librarian and curator of the Medical Heritage Center from 1997 to 2003, this fund provides educational and travel support and opportunities for professional staff and faculty across The Ohio State University Libraries system.

Established in 1998 with gifts from friends and colleagues of professor emeritus Dr. James V. Warren, this endowment supports medical humanities education, research and related programs in the Medical Heritage Center at the Health Sciences Library, including a lecture program.

James R. Wright Jr., MD, PhD, Lectureship Endowment (fund #647704)

Established in 2019, this endowment funds the annual James R. Wright, PhD, lecture. Lecture topics include history of pathology and other medical history topics, including practices, technology, treatment and prevention of disease and institutional approaches.

The Robert M. Zollinger Legacy Endowment (fund #607724)

Established in 1995 with gifts from friends and family of Dr. Robert M. Zollinger, this endowment supports the preservation of Dr. Zollinger's collection of writings, materials for research and memorabilia at the Medical Heritage Center.
