Celebrity Eyewear Collection

Fun Facts about the Collection

How It Started: Arol Augsberger, then a doctor in the Ohio State University College of Optometry, wrote to celebrities asking for a pair of their eyeglasses with a photo of them wearing the glasses.

From Optometry to MHC: The collection was displayed in the lobby of the College of Optometry for many years. It was in storage when the College of Optometry was remodeled, and ultimately donated to the MHC in 2007.

A True Lifesaver: In the 1940s and 1950s, incidents of polio began to rise to epidemic proportions. The iron lung became one of the most iconic objects of the polio epidemic.
