Misty Lamprecht (Class of 2025)

For over 35 years, Misty Lamprecht, MS, APRN-CNS, AOCN, BMTCN, has been revered as an oncology nurse, clinical specialist, researcher and dedicated volunteer.

Lamprecht earned her undergraduate nursing degree from Capital University in 1989 and began her career in oncology nursing at The Ohio State University James Cancer Hospital’s bone marrow transplant unit, specializing in the care of patients with blood cancer. In 1994, she obtained her Master of Science degree from The Ohio State University College of Nursing and became certified as an Advance Practice Clinical Nurse Specialist with a focus in oncology.

To ensure her complex patients received the best care, Lamprecht created an in-depth educational curriculum for the nursing staff caring for bone marrow transplant patients. She contributed to the general knowledge of bone marrow transplant patients by leading evidence-based practice and research projects to continually improve care. She led the way in how central venous catheters are managed, from the use of alcohol-impregnated end caps to using chlorhexidine for dressings and bathing. She was also the principal investigator on research studies looking at carrier versus active clotridoides difficile in patients with hematologic malignancies and decreased the time of cryotherapy during high-dose Melphalan infusions by two hours.

Lamprecht is viewed as an expert among oncology nursing and medical communities in central Ohio. She has authored over fifteen publications, written several textbook chapters and given multiple local and national presentations. In 2018, she received the Excellence in Blood and Marrow Transplant Award from the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) and in 2019 presented at the annual ONS conference, gaining recognition and additional speaking opportunities across the United States as a result.

In addition to her clinical practice, Lamprecht has engaged in multiple activities that bring awareness to and raise money for cancer research and patient care. She has participated in walks such as the Komen Race for the Cure for breast cancer awareness and both the Light the Night and Be the Match initiatives that raise money for blood cancer research. As a volunteer for Be the Match, now known as the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP), Lamprecht assists with donor drives to find potential matches for patients who need a transplant. For many years, she has also volunteered at the first aid tent during Pelotonia. In 2024, to honor her brother who succumbed to cancer, she rode his bike 25 miles in support of finding a cure for cancer. She has no limits to her acts of altruism and supports other organizations like the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society and Central Ohio Area Agency on Aging. Knowing that one of the hallmarks of care for blood cancer patients is blood transfusions, Lamprecht also regularly donates red blood cells and platelets, helping to ensure those in need can continue to receive life-saving transfusions.
