Understanding Research Impact: Citation Metrics, Altmetrics, and ORCID Workshop

Tuesday, June 17
2 – 3 p.m. EDT
Online Workshop led by Kaylie Vermillion, Research Librarian,
HSL Research and Education

Join us for a workshop focused on using citation databases and scholarly tools to articulate metrics that support the research impact section of the faculty dossier.  We’ll demonstrate how to extract data from Web of Science and Scopus, integrate ORCID for easier tracking of research outputs, and explore the differences between these tools, Google Scholar, and altmetrics.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Understanding impact factors, h-index, and altmetrics
  • Conducting author searches in Web of Science and Scopus
  • Comparing Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar
  • Exporting citation data for your records
  • Using ORCID to streamline research tracking

No prior experience with Web of Science or Scopus is required.  Please note that we will not cover data entry into Interfolio.  This workshop is ideal for faculty preparing for promotion, as well as assistants supporting dossier preparation.

The session will not be recorded, but slides will be shared with participants.

Can’t make the workshop? Check out our Measuring Scholarly Impact Guide.

If you require an accommodation such as live captioning or interpretation to participate in this event, please contact Judy Gregory at judith.gregory@osumc.edu or (614) 292-4861. Requests made by Tuesday, June 3rd will generally allow us to provide seamless access, but the university will make every effort to meet requests made after this date.
