Ohio State Nursing Cape
History
The Ohio State University College of Nursing was founded in 1914 as the Homeopathic Hospital Training School for Nurses within the College of Homeopathic Medicine. In 1922 when the College of Homeopathic Medicine closed, the Training School was placed in the College of Medicine and renamed the University Hospital Training School for Nurses.
In 1928, the program was renamed The Ohio State University School of Nursing. The school continued under the administration of the College of Medicine until 1984, when it was elevated to independent college status.
The Cape
Often worn over a white nursing uniform, this scarlet and gray nursing cape bears the initials O.S.U.H. on its collar. This particular cape was the standard cape in 1944 and belonged to Mary B. Eckfield, a graduate of the 1944 class.
