Fun Facts about the Collection

How It Started: Arol Augsberger, then a doctor in the Ohio State University College of Optometry, wrote to celebrities asking for a pair of their eyeglasses with a photo of them wearing the glasses.

From Optometry to MHC: The collection was displayed in the lobby of the College of Optometry for many years. It was in storage when the College of Optometry was remodeled, and ultimately donated to the MHC in 2007.

A Valuable Training Tool: Moulage is the art of applying mock injuries to mannequins/dummies in order to train medical personnel. These can be as simple as applying rubber or latex 'wounds,' to more intensive efforts such as complex makeup and theatre techniques.

Origins: The art of moulage was introduced in the 1500s. This specific set that was donated by the Department of Dermatology was produced in Sonneburg, Germany by the Somso Company sometime between 1876 and 1893.

Mildred Newton Stamp Collection

About The Collection

The stamps contained in this four volume set document nursing throughout the world. This stamp collection was started by June Ramsey in 1940 and continued by Mildred Newton, dean of the Ohio State College of Nursing from 1951 to 1968 (pictured on the right). Newton was the first director of the college to hold a doctoral degree, and she encouraged the recruitment of doctorally-prepared faculty.
