Public Services Manager

OhioLINK, the statewide network that connects academic libraries across Ohio, recently launched a new library services platform. At The Ohio State University, this new platform is called Libraries Search. As part of this transition, both the Ohio State Health Sciences Library (HSL) and Ohio State University Libraries now offer a more user-friendly interface, enhanced search tools and new features that make managing your library account easier than ever.

Why Log Into Your Library Account?

Logging into your library account is the best way to begin your resource search. It allows you to:

• Request physical or digital items
• Save and organize search results
• Set up alerts for new materials
• View and renew current loans
• Check the status of requests
• Review fines and blocks on your account

How to Log In

Start at the HSL homepage and click “Log into My Account” located below the Libraries Search search bar. You can also sign in anytime during a search session by clicking “Sign in” in the upper right corner of any Libraries Search webpage. Select the appropriate credential type when prompted.

Requesting Items

Once logged in, click on any item in your search results to view availability, loan periods and pickup options.

• Select “Request” to have physical items delivered to an Ohio State library location or to your on-campus office.
• Select “Request a Scan” to receive a digital copy of specific chapters or pages.

Saving and Sharing Searches

Use the push pin icon next to an item to save it to My Favorites or click “Save query” to store a search. Access your saved items and searches by clicking your name in the top right corner of a Libraries Search webpage and choosing “My Favorites.” You can add labels to organize your lists and set up email alerts or RSS feeds to stay informed about new materials matching your search criteria.

Using Your Library Card

Click your name in the top-right corner of a Libraries Search webpage and select “Library Card” to access the following information:

• Loans: View due dates and renew items
• Requests: Check the status of or cancel pending requests
• Fines + Fees: View any charges on your account; note that payments must be made through the Office of the University Bursar
• Blocks + Messages: See if there are any account issues preventing checkouts or renewals

What’s Next?

While the new user interface is fully live, some system upgrades are still in progress. For now, users cannot place requests for pickup at OhioLINK libraries outside Ohio State or request items from SearchOhio (the public library system). These services will resume as the platform transition is finalized in the coming months.
