The Ohio State University Health Sciences Library (HSL) is excited to share that Missy Creed, consumer health librarian for the Library for Health Information (LHI) at the HSL, has been named one of the ten recipients of the 2025 American Library Association (ALA) “I Love My Librarian” Award. This award is sponsored by the Carnegie Corporation of New York with support from the New York Public Library and administered by the American Library Association (ALA), and recognizes librarians who have made outstanding contributions to their communities. Missy was chosen from nearly 1,300 nominations for her tireless work in health outreach and education. Read more about all ten honorees in the full announcement on the ALA website.
The LHI plays a critical role in providing free, confidential and reliable health information to the greater Columbus, Ohio community to assist people with understanding their health diagnoses and conditions. Missy spends much of her time participating in health fairs and outreach events, including staffing a weekly resource table at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center’s East Hospital tower lobby. These events allow her to reach over 1,000 individuals annually, with an emphasis on traditionally underserved populations. Missy’s goal is to empower people to start conversations with their healthcare providers and to make informed decisions about their health and care options.
In the coming months, Missy will be featured in media interviews with WOSU radio and via the ALA's LibLearnX conference in Phoenix, Arizona, where her remarkable contributions to public health literacy will be highlighted. To learn more about Missy’s work and the award she’s received, read her spotlight on the I Love Libraries website.
Members of the Columbus community can visit Missy at the LHI’s physical location in the Wexner Medical Center main hospital at Ohio State’s Columbus campus. People can also connect with Missy and/or submit their health information questions via the LHI’s webpage, email or phone.
