Medical Student Research Workshop Series
Registration is limited to current OSU medical students.

The Health Sciences Library presents a series of online workshops aimed at medical students preparing for research projects. Each workshop will address a different aspect of performing research and literature searches. Each workshop will act as a standalone session; registration for the complete series is welcomed, but not required. Follow the links below to register for a workshop:

Wednesday, April 1, 2020, 5pm-6:30pm -- Introduction to Systematic Reviews
This workshop will provide attendees with an overview of the systematic review process, including a discussion of systematic review standards and guidelines, different types of reviews, and an introduction to the theory and importance of comprehensive searching.

Monday, April 6, 2020, 5pm-6:30pm -- Introduction to Comprehensive Searching
Regardless of what type of research you might be doing, you will likely want to perform a comprehensive search to obtain all the relevant literature. This workshop will discuss the introductory concepts needed for comprehensive searching, such as subject headings vs. keywords, database selection, and basic search syntax.

Wednesday, April 15, 2020, 5pm-6:30pm -- Advanced Searching Techniques
For those who already have a good grasp of the foundations of comprehensive searching, during this workshop we will dive into some of the more nitty-gritty aspects of searching. Topics to be covered will include a review of basic search syntax and an introduction to more advanced search syntax, database-specific search features or quirks, and search translation. Participants are encouraged to bring questions or strange things they have encountered in past searching that can be discussed with the group.

Monday, April 20, 2020, 5pm-6:30pm -- Tools for Managing the Research Process
There are many tools available to help you keep your research organized. During this workshop, we will provide an overview of some of the most popular tools, such as personal database accounts, saved searches, and search alerts, reference managers, and Covidence.
