Prior Hall Access FAQ (COVID-19)

Here are answers to common questions related to accessing Prior Hall and Library Resources during the COVID-19 limited library access. These FAQs will be updated as COVID health precaution guidelines are updated per CDC and other guidelines.

Q: My badge or BuckID will not let me into the library, but the library looks open. How do I get into the library?

Q: My badge or BuckID will not let me into the library, but the library looks open. How do I get into the library?

A: Access to the library is currently limited, and is via pre-approved Medical Center or BuckID badge access only. Each person entering the library must swipe his/her/their own ID; do not ask others to let you in. More information about limited access is on our reopening page

Q: Who can I contact if I don't know if I have access to the library?

A: All those who have access should have been notified by their respective colleges. Questions about accessing Prior Hall should be sent to hslaccess@osumc.edu.

Q: Can I still use materials from the library if I don’t have access to library?

A: Yes. Please see our Circulation FAQ for more information.

Q: I don’t have access to the library, but I need to pick up a book on hold. What do I do?

A: Please call 614-292-4861 (number is posted on the front door) when you arrive to pick up your materials, and a librarian will coordinate a contact-free pickup. Have your BuckID or Medical Center badge ready. Please remain outside during this transaction — library staff will check out your materials and bring them out to you.

Q: I booked a study room, but then found out that I don’t have access to the library. Will someone let me in when I arrive for my reservation?

A: Access to Prior Hall, including the study rooms, is currently limited to pre-approved BuckID or Medical Center badge access at the front door only. The study room reservation system doesn't know if you have building access, so we recommend confirming your access to the building prior to reserving a study room. Send access questions to hslaccess@osumc.edu. An immediate response is not guaranteed, so please plan accordingly. 

Q: I have a test/class the 460B Computer Lab, Clinical Skills, etc., but I can't enter the building because I don't have swipe access. Who do I contact?

Q: I would like to check out an AHA manual (ACLS, BLS, etc), but I can’t get in to the library. Can I still get a copy from the library?

A: You can access electronic versions on this page. For print versions, For print versions, please call 614-292-4861 (number is posted on the front door) when you arrive to pick up your materials, and a librarian will coordinate a contact-free pickup. Have your BuckID or Medical Center badge ready. Please remain outside during this transaction — library staff will check out your materials and bring them out to you.

Q: Can I quickly come into the library to print something if I don’t have access?

A: If you don't have access to the library, please check this site for other campus public computer options. UniPrint also has additional printing options available. For those with access to the library, our public computer and printing stations on the 1st and 4th floors are available for use. A BuckID is required for printing.

Q: I have a book to return. Can I come into the library to get a check-in receipt?

A: For health and safety considerations, please observe our contact-less return process and return your materials in the library book drop, located on the outside of the building. We are unable to provide check-in receipts at this time. You can confirm due dates and/or renew your Ohio State University Libraries, OhioLINK and SearchOhio items by logging in to My Library Account.  Please see our Circulation FAQ for more information.  

Q: I returned a book two days ago, on the due date. Why did I receive an overdue notice email?

A: Your returned book may be in quarantine. Returned materials will be quarantined for five days before being checked in. Items are backdated when checked in after the quarantine period. If you believe the overdue notice is in error, you can confirm due dates for your Ohio State University Libraries, OhioLINK and Search Ohio items by logging in to My Library Account. Q: I would like to come in and browse your library collection, but I don’t have badge-swipe access. How can I come in and view your collection?

A: As of late 2019, there are no longer public access book stacks in Prior Hall. Items are available for request through the Library Catalog for delivery to any campus library or office location. Items from remote storage locations may take 1 – 2 business days or longer for delivery. Journal articles and book chapters can also be scanned and delivered electronically by request through Interlibrary Services. Please see Print Resources for more information.

Q: There's no food allowed in the library right now. Where can I go to eat near the library?

A: Library visitors can take food to the hospital cafeteria seating area to eat. There are also other dining options near Prior Hall. Covered drinks are allowed in the library.
