Pamela S. Dickerson

Pamela S. Dickerson established Life Wise, an independent nursing practice in Central Ohio, in 1982 with Barbara A. Nash. Life Wise was a health care consulting firm providing services on a contractual basis and was recognized as the first independent nursing practice in Ohio. Dickerson was a Partner and Vice President until 2010.

In 1991, Dickerson became Owner and President of PRN Continuing Education. This business provides continuing education seminars for registered nurses and consultation to facilities regarding continuing education programming, services, approval and accreditation.

Dickerson taught nursing in central Ohio at Capital University, Franklin University, and The Ohio State University. She is a founding member of the Nurse Entrepreneur Assembly of the Ohio Nurses Association. She is the chair of the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation and has also served as a Commissioner (1995-1999) and Appraiser (1995-2008). Dickerson served for five years as inaugural President of the Oncology Education Services’ Board of Directors and a four-year term on the Ohio Board of Nursing Continuing Education Advisory Group. She is a member of the Ohio Nurses Association Continuing Education Approver Council; member and co-chair of the OhioHealth Ethics Advisory Committee for Community Based Services; and co-editor of Administrative Angles column in the Journal of Continuing Education in Nursing.

Dickerson earned a diploma from Riverside-White Cross School of Nursing in 1969; a BSN from Old Dominion University School of Nursing in 1974; an MSN with a concentration in women’s health from The Ohio State University in 1978; and a PhD in Health Administration from Columbia Southern University in 1998. She is also board certified in Nursing Professional Development.

Dickerson was honored as a Legend in 2013.
